I want to especially thank all the Eldor employees who made it possible for us to meet the expectations, without you it would not be possible. 2019 was a year with a lot of changes and development in the Eldor group.
This week a team from Kairos Technology attended the Fourth International Workshop on Functional Modelling (IWFM) at DTU in Copenhagen, Denmark. Claus Myllerup, CTO, demonstrated a customer case story with potential of reducing annual production loss by 0.5% for the studied process unit (plant-wide potential was estimated to 2.5%) and presented learning points from MFM based Hazop of a complete gas terminal. Sharat Kumar Pathi presented Functional Modelling of Offshore Oil & Gas Water Injection System along with Morten Lind and Jing Wu. Our Managing Director, Bjarne André Asheim, is in the Advisory Committee for IWFM.
We are pleased to announce the first release of Kairos - Control Room Assistant today. We started developing the software in 2014, so we are very proud to release the first version of Kairos.
The control room assistant ensures real time decision support to the control room operators for improved situational awareness. Kairos combines deterministic modelling with deviation propagation and artificial intelligence.
We believe this software will improve the workday for control room operators with increased production efficiency and increased safety in process plants.
The company Eldor Technology AS is officially changing names to Kairos Technology AS! This is only one of the exciting changes happening in the company. The name was changed to fit better with our product Kairos - Control Room Assistant and the ongoing development.
Eldor Technology AS has secured an investment from Skagerak Maturo Seed and ProVenture. Eldor Technology AS has developed KAIROS – Control Room Assistant, which offers real-time decision support for control room operators in order to eliminate and reduce down-time of process facilities. The product combines deterministic modelling (functional model) with deviation propagation analysis, and artificial intelligence.
The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Center (DHRTC) annual report 2018 was issued in May. Eldor Technology has a close relationship with DHRTC and DTU. In fact, the technology embedded in our product Kairos - Control Room Assistant is based on the theories from Professor Morten Lind and the excellent research performed at DTU as a part of the DHRTC (the project is still called AlarmTracker within DHRTC/DTU).
Our decision support tool for control room operators, Kairos, is now undergoing pilot testing with live data from two production platforms offshore UK and DK. The pilot testing has been ongoing since mid February.
News from Aberdeen
During the past few months, Eldor has brought in new employees, and we are waiting for even more! We have been growing our business in Aberdeen during the past year, and as such have appointed a new Operations Manager for Eldor UK, Carl Townsend, who will be based in Aberdeen to help out our current customers, as well as new ones. Also, Ian Bowden has been appointed as our UK Service Manager. Purna Kiran Mopidevi and Suresh Vuyyuru, both senior engineers, have also joined our team in Aberdeen. Additionally, we have invested in ABB test equipment for applications and software, and we have set up a simulator to do testing in our Aberdeen office.
Finally, we have decided on the new name for the product previously known as AlarmTracker.
Kairos is an Ancient Greek word meaning the right, critical, or opportune moment. (Kairos also means weather in Modern Greek.) It’s the difference between a minute (kronos) and a moment (kairos). Kairos is the idea of timing which relates an event or a state to a situational context.
Our development project was given the name AlarmTracker based on our initial idea of tracking the root cause of alarms. This has often been misunderstood as being yet another alarm management tool.
KAIROS offers so much more. The technology embedded in our KAIROS products combines deter-ministic modelling with deviation propagation analysis and artificial intelligence. The model utilises human experience along with the plant design parameters, and effectively captures and makes explicit and tacit knowledge available.
With live plant data as evidence, the model presents a real time HAZOP to the control room operators for better decision-making, which reduces losses and avoids shut- downs.
The result is an increased production output by 5%, with reduced flaring and increased safety.
